Learning outcomes

Core competence 1 | The Masters can analyze communication in professional settings.
The Masters are able to analyze language use and proficiency in professional settings: both the internal and external communication of companies, government organizations, and non-profit organizations. They can conduct reasoned analyses of oral and written forms of communication based on recent theoretical insights (communication plans, professional reports, bad news communication, crisis communication, feedback conversations, etc.). They can investigate whether an organization's communication aligns with the vision, mission, and values ​​of that organization and its stakeholders. They can give and receive feedback in a critical manner. They can apply the insights provided and problem-solving skills in a sophisticated communication strategy and to specific genres.

Core competence 2 | The Masters communicate professionally in practice.
The Masters hone their professional written and oral communication skills in Dutch and in at least one other foreign language (German, French, English, and Spanish). They can respond in a well-considered, communicative, and strategically thoughtful manner in various situations, both orally and in writing. The Masters know which choice of media, genre, content, structure, language, and layout is relevant for any given assignment. The Masters acquire operational and strategic communicative competences within a changing (organizational) context.

Core competence 3 | The Masters can think multidisciplinarily in communication and management.
The Masters orient themselves to the organizational and communication context from various perspectives. They are able to delve deeper into a sub-discipline if the situation demands it. They can speak and understand the language of their organizational partners.

Core competence 4 | The Masters can shape sustainable development
The Masters develop strategic competences, normative competences, and anticipatory (future-oriented) competences. They acquire interpersonal competences and develop self-awareness.

Core competence 5 | The Masters conduct qualitative and quantitative research.
The Masters become acquainted with various qualitative and quantitative research methods related to language proficiency and communication research, and also learn to apply them. They are capable of independently reading, interpreting, and critically reflecting on professional and scientific literature.
The Masters are capable of independently and purposefully collecting and interpreting research data in a scientific manner. They can use their knowledge and skills to make an original contribution to the development of new knowledge, insights, and future-oriented policy. The Masters collect, process, and store (sensitive) data in an ethically responsible manner. They apply their research skills to conduct independent research in the broad field of professional communication.
