Quality assurance and facts & figures

Quality assurance

At the University of Antwerp we ensure the quality of our programmes. Every programme goes through a six-year quality assurance cycle.

In year three, we review the quality assurance of the programme during the internal process monitoring and control. In the autumn of 2021 this was done for the Bachelor-Master programmes of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

A peer review in year six concludes the cycle. The study programme conducts a self-reflection and has  discussions with internal and external experts and with an independent student.

On the 6th and 7th of May 2025 the peer review team visited the Bachelor-Master programmes (including preparatory programmes) and Master of Teaching of the Faculty of Business and Economics and decided to confirm its confidence in the programmes: Bachelor in de toegepaste economische wetenschappen, Master in de Toegepaste Economische Wetenschappen: Bedrijfskunde, Master of Business Economics, Master in de Toegepaste Economische Wetenschappen: Economisch Beleid, Master of Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy, Bachelor handelsingenieur, Master handelsingenieur, Master of Business Engineering: Financial Engineering, Bachelor handelsingenieur in de beleidsinformatica, Master of Digital Business Engineering, Educatieve Master in de Economie: Domain components.

Conclusions of the peer review team

The programmes show transparency in addressing challenges, have a strong culture of continuous improvement and demonstrate excellence attaining multiple accreditations (NVAO, AACSB, EFMD, EQUIS). There is a clear and shared vision of the unique selling points (USPs), with sustainability in general and the â€˜International week on Sustainability’ specifically highlighted as distinctive and professionally relevant features.

Dedicated faculty committees enhance the visibility of ethics and sustainability, connections with practice, and internationalisation, and foster staff engagement. Faculty support in these initiatives is robust. The commitment to internationalisation is reflected in double degrees, BIP’s, and internationalisation @home, enriching both international and local student experiences.

Students can rely on an inclusive environment with support for socio-economically disadvantaged students, buddy and mentoring programmes, and bridging courses in key subjects. The ‘Shape your â€¦â€™ initiatives - ‘Shape Your Bachelor’, ‘Shape Your Master’,  â€˜Shape Your International Journey’ and ‘Shape Your Career’ - help students navigate choices, while a broad offer of electives supports personalised learning.

The programmes will explore possibilities of reshaping group work such as introducing coaching and peer tutoring, strengthening team work and role play to become more confident and capable in collaborative settings. The organization of group work in diverse composed groups will be continued and encouraged to enhance students’ international and intercultural competences.

The Faculty has initiated a process to review the role and form of the bachelor’s thesis in the light of challenges posed by generative AI, by critically assessing the goals, expectations, skills and structure. The programmes will also rethink (aspects of) the internships and take action concerning the promotion, the duration and the information on possibilities for international students. Guidance on choices in language courses during ‘Shape your bachelor’ could be perfectioned, e.g. through a ‘Shape Your Languages’ initiative. ‘Shape Your Career’ will be updated with more interaction and insights from business and industry. The diversity of assessment methods will be continued to be monitored and enhanced in the learning track meetings.

Given the wide range of initiatives and programmes offered, resource usage and efficiency will be further pursued e.g. using the YUFE alliance as a leverage to enrich the curriculum. Students will be offered a nuanced understanding of their environmental impact, on e.g. the carbon footprint of going abroad and the use of AI. The programmes will discuss strengthening the alumni network whose members can serve as peers and role models for current students. Finally, the programmes will continue to align with university and faculty policy on the use of generative AI and stay up to date with recent developments, preferably resulting in a coherent policy across the programmes.
