Expertise

I am a specialist of late-medieval book culture in North Western Europe. My research concerns Latin and vernacular chronicles from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century from the Low Countries and France. I am also interested in book production and book ownership in the Low Countries and Northern France. I recently worked on the medieval book collection of the Herne charterhouse. I currently work on a study and new online edition of the historical work ‘De Brabantsche Yeesten’, written by the Antwerp municipal clerk Jan van Boendale. In this context I also investigate the documents issued by the Antwerp aldermen during the first half of the forteenth century. I continue researching the textual history and manuscript transmission of the Middle French chronicles by Jean Froissart. I also work on the production of vernacular manuscripts in Paris in the early fifteenth century and the röle played by scribes and stationers (‘libraires’).
