Charris De Smet graduated from the University of Antwerp in 2019. Her master's thesis analysed consumer patterns and values on the Parisian second-hand markets during the late-eighteenth century, which has been published in .
As a collaborator of the TOP-funded research project "", she has done research into nineteenth-century French auction practices from March 2019 until October 2020.
As of November 2020, she is working on her PhD research as a PhD Fellow of the . Her research proposal “Politicians on the market? Framing French consumerism in an age of regime change (Paris, c. 1780 - c. 1870)” aims to study the political embedding of consumption in nineteenth-century Paris. The project questions how political debates have shaped commercial parlour at the dawn of the modern era.
