Abstract

This project is delving into the complex world of online politics. Politicians use various strategies to present themselves in the best light possible, but how do they do this online? With the rise of social media and the internet, politicians have a whole new arena for shaping how they're perceived. They are moving away from traditional campaigns and looking at how to use platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat in order to craft their image. A central question is about authenticity: are politicians genuine online, or are they putting on a show? The aim of this research is understanding how they balance being themselves whilst presenting a polished image and looking at how private aspects of politicians' lives become more prominent online. From sharing family pictures to posting hobbies, social media is giving a peek into private lives like never before. But also scandals and negative campaigning play out in the digital world. How do these controversies affect voter perceptions? How does the impact differ for male or female candidates? But this research is also exploring how factors like education, and gender influence voters' correspond to politicians online. Understanding these dynamics gives valuable insights into how online politics shape society and give insight into understanding voter engagement, help construct appealing candidates and reveal the impact of crafted images.
