About
The Molecular Imaging Center Antwerp (MICA) was founded in 2010 as a joint effort by the University of Antwerp and the University Hospital Antwerp taking nuclear medicine to the next level. The laboratory experienced significant growth over the years, leading to the need for additional space. In 2026, the laboratory facilities were therefore expanded to support its growing activities and future ambitions.
The research group led by Prof. Dr. Sigrid Stroobants M.D. consists of a molecular probe development team (Prof. Dr. Filipe Elvas ( Tenure-track Assistant Professor)), a preclinical imaging laboratory (Prof. Dr. Steven Staelens M.D.) and a clinical department (Dr. Sarah Ceyssens), putting this lab at the forefront of bench to bedside research in molecular diagnostics.
MICA has an excellent team of internationally recruited imaging experts and state-of-the-art infrastructure, providing world-class solutions for biomedical imaging research. Through close collaborations with academic institutions, research centers and international industrial partners, MICA actively contributes to global research initiatives and fosters the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and innovative technologies. This international network enables MICA to remain at the forefront of imaging science and deliver high-quality support for a wide range of multidisciplinary research projects.
