Bio

Alex Binh Vinh Duc Nguyen researches and teaches the responsible integration of emerging digital technologies into architecture. He is passionate in prototyping and evaluating innovative technologies that augment both architectural space and the architectural design process, with the aim of improving occupant experience, health and wellbeing, as well as building quality and sustainability. His research focuses on interdisciplinary efforts that bridge architecture with emerging fields such as Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Robot Interaction, and Human-Centred AI. He is internationally recognisable in the communities of Human-Building Interaction and robotic furniture, particularly for his work on architectural-scale mobile robots.
Alex holds a PhD in Engineering Science: Architecture from KU Leuven, awarded in 2023, and an MSc in Digital Architecture and Design from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, awarded in 2019. From 2024 to 2026, he worked as manager for the SONATA Horizon Europe project.

Favourite (interior) architecture project

The Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg by Herzog & de Meuron is an elegant example of how advanced digital technologies can support the conception of a poetic architectural vision. Its auditorium design is computationally optimised for acoustic experience, while the biomorphic glass facade allows it to respond sensitively to its surrounding context of water, sky, and the historic warehouse district. At the same time, the building maintains a recognisable silhouette, becoming both a continuation of its setting and a unique landmark.
