1.1. Gender Equality Plan (2021)
Since 2008, Ƶ has actively assumed its social responsibility in creating a more inclusive organisation with equal opportunities for students and staff. For this purpose, the University of Antwerp published the strategic action plan “Sustainable gender policy for academic staff” in 2014 and the comprehensive gender report “Gender at the University of Antwerp” in 2018. The measures from these action plans that have a direct or indirect impact on gender equality at our institution are summarised in the . In the past, our gender policy mainly focused on eliminating the underrepresentation of women in the highest academic ranks. Today, it is part of the broader policy on diversity and inclusion.
1.2. Charter Gender in Academia (2019)

The document was created by the Young Academy (JA) and the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR). It builds on these universities' ongoing efforts and aims to accelerate gender equality in academia.
1.3. Reporting gender statistics
The report provides an overview of the gender balance of academic staff and students. The report offers insight into the progress that has been made towards gender equality. The data in this report is derived from the Power Business Intelligence System Gender (Power BI Gender). Due to privacy and payroll restrictions, the current HR system only registers legal gender. For this reason, this report is only concerned with data that relates to legal gender. Our policy interprets gender in a wider sense that includes gender identity (M/W/X). This analysis also helps to identify areas where future gender policy can focus on.
