JURE Programme
| 13:30-14:00 | Walk in & coffee |
| 14:00-14:15 | Opening of the SIG14 JURE event |
| 14:15-15:45 | Workshop 1 - Demystifying open science: practical applications for qualitative and quantitative research - Bea Mertens This workshop addresses open science as a response to the reproducibility crisis and a cornerstone of high-quality research. Moving beyond misconceptions equating open science with open data, it emphasizes the pathway of 'open methods'. Participants will explore practices and tools that enhance transparency, traceability, and reproducibility of the research process in both qualitative and quantitative research. |
| 15:45-16:15 | Coffee break |
| 16:15-17:15 | Workshop 2 Learning to Publish: Tacit Knowledge on Writing, Submitting, and Revising Journal Articles in Educational Research - Professor David Gijbels Publishing in high-quality journals is a core part of becoming a researcher, yet the publication process often remains opaque for early-career scholars. In this interactive workshop, participants will be guided through the full journey of an academic manuscript in educational research—from initial submission to editorial decision and revision—drawing on personal experiences from multiple roles within the publication system (author, reviewer, supervisor, editorial board member, and editor). The workshop addresses key questions junior researchers frequently have: What happens to a manuscript once it is submitted? How do editors and reviewers evaluate submissions? What are common reasons for desk rejection, and how can these be avoided? How can authors strategically choose an appropriate journal and improve their manuscript’s fit with a scholarly community? Particular attention will be paid to understanding decision-making from the editor’s and reviewer’s perspectives, responding constructively to peer-review comments, and using revisions as opportunities for strengthening both the manuscript and the underlying research. Beyond formal guidelines, the session emphasizes the importance of tacit knowledge in academic publishing, such as collaboration, audience awareness, and positioning one’s work within ongoing scholarly conversations. Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences and questions, making the workshop especially relevant for doctoral students and early-career researchers affiliated with EARLI and SIG14. The ultimate goal is to demystify the publication process and support participants in writing articles that contribute meaningfully to the advancement of research on learning and professional development. |
| 17:15-17:30 | Closing of the SIG14 JURE event |
