USOS facilitates and strengthens collaborations between University of Antwerp and institutions of higher education in the Global South. The partnerships strive for equality and reciprocity. They are are based on trust and mutual understanding and give rise to student and staff exchanges.
Partners consult with each other in a multilateral context. An advisory group meeting takes place annually.
DR Congo
USOS invests in an annual research design course. This is a seminar on research skills aimed at promising researchers from all over DR Congo. It is organised by the Centre of Excellence in Mining Management (), affiliated to our partner institution .
Due to the takeover of M23, this course cannot continue for the time being.
Nicaragua
Until 2023, USOS provided fellowships for young researchers at the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) and the affiliated research NGO Nitlapan, which carried out research into rural development. Since the Nicaraguan regime took over the university, USOS has been trying to support the people who try to keep the legacy of Nitlapan alive.
Morocco
USOS supports the collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ, and the Faculty of Sciences at the (UMP) in Oujda. The collaboration aims to improve care for diabetes patients in Oujda. The collaboration is currently being extended to other faculties, both in Antwerp and Oujda.
India
USOS supports collaborations between the Faculty of Law and three Indian institutions, namely (XISS) in Ranchi, in Ranchi and the (NLU) in Delhi. The collaborations result in the exchange of students and staff in the form of exposures, internships and participation in summer schools.
Suriname
USOS launched a partnership with the in Paramaribo (ADEKUS - Faculty of Technological Sciences, Civil Infrastructure) in 2023. This partnership builds on the long-term research collaboration (since 2005) between ADEKUS and the (ISTT) of the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp.
The collaboration with USOS strengthens research and knowledge and student exchange between the two institutions.
Brazil
USOS launched a partnership with the in Recife Brazil (UNICAP - Department of Arquitetura e Urbanismo) in 2023. This partnership builds on the research collaboration ongoing since 2018 between UNICAP and the (ISTT) of the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp.
The collaboration with USOS strengthens research and knowledge and student exchange between the two institutions.
