Fulton Sheen evening

In the mid-20th century, Bishop Fulton Sheen dominated American television and radio with his passionate speeches on virtually every possible theological topic. At the height of his fame, he reached tens of millions of people each week and won an Emmy Award for Television Personality of the Year.

While interest in him never fully disappeared, the rise of YouTube and later social media has led to a remarkable resurgence of attention to his work in recent years.

The image Fulton Sheen presents of himself throughout his sixty books and near-endless recordings is not that of a major star, but of a humble servant of God with a deeply lived faith in the sacrifice Christ made to redeem every human being, and a boundless devotion to Mary.

Fulton Sheen evening

Today, looking back across decades of postmodern deconstruction and against a misunderstood ideal of freedom, Sheen’s voice sounds like a critical warning not to discard all acquired values and time-tested principles that have been proven by generations.

He also has relevant things to say about materialism and the cult of self-creation, about today’s brutal political populism, or about the wave of despair overwhelming many young people – especially now that this generation can look back at the past with some distance.

On 24 September 2026, Fulton Sheen will be beatified in St. Louis, USA, in front of an audience of one hundred thousand believers. On this occasion, you are warmly welcome at Zomaar een dak for various activities.
