The French government issues a number of internationally recognised qualifications in French language proficiency. The exams can be taken at the various proficiency levels described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR / CECR). The most important exams are:
- DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française)
- DFP (Diplôme du français professionnel), organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paris.
- TCF (Tests de connaissance du français).
